First PBeM Druid Tournament
14th Feb - 17th July, 2005
News: Congratulations to skouboe, tournament winner and Uberdruid!
skoubue went undefeated in the final two rounds, and will receive a copy of "Hex Strategy" as first prize.
The final round has now begun. The finalists, skouboe and fritzd, will play best-of-three games to determine the winner. Two games shall be started now, and a third shall be started later if necessary.
The following Druids have reached the Second Level of Enlightement (in order of ranking):
Each second-level Druid shall play one game against every other, according to the rules below.
Each Druid shall also play one bonus game against mmammel's A.I. (ai-mm). However, the artifical player, lacking a soul, shall not progress to the Third Level of Enlightenment regardless of its performance.
Rules
Attention all Druids! You have been segregated into three holy Orders as follows:
Order A: | skouboe | camb | eholzman | lyman | mmammel |
Order B: | fritzd | ndzied1 | igray | wghunter | rrognlie |
Order C: | morat | whiterabit | markball | davidmilne | dave |
Druids were assigned to Orders based on their ranking modulo 3, so each Order should have a comparable distribution of strength.
Level 1: Each Druid shall play one game against every other Druid in their Order. The server's tournament code will ensure that each Druid starts as many games playing first as they do playing second. The second player may elect to swap alignments.
Druids may meditate on each move for up to seven days. Any Druid who does not move for a week shall be presumed to have lapsed into another realm, and shall be removed from that game lest their transcendental wanderings be disturbed.
Move with care, as Druids may not undo that which has been done.
Druids shall receive 3 pts for a win and 1 pt each for a tie. No game has yet ended in a deadlock but this is theoretically possible (pass twice in succession to call a tie). Druids may submit their game to the tournament director for a ruling on whether a deadlock has occured.
The two best Druids from each Order shall progress to the Second Level of Enlightenment. Any uncertainty shall be decided by additional matches between tied players.
Level 2: The six remaining Druids shall play one game against each other (rules as per Level 1). If mmammel's A.I. is ready at this point then each Druid shall also play a bonus game against it.
The two best Druids shall progress to the Third Level of Enlightenment. The worst Druid shall be sacrificed at the first available full moon, and his entrails augured to decide the play order for the final round. Sorry I didn't mention this earlier.
Level 3: The two remaining Druids shall play a best-of-three match to determine the Uberdruid, who shall be gifted a copy of the holy tome "Hex Strategy".

Good luck!
